The north of Bali still feels untouched and like the real Bali. I first visited Lovina in 2016, and I was happy to see that almost two years later it hasn’t changed much.
Unlike Canggu (there seems to open a new café or spa every single day) it still feels like the pure Bali.
On this visit to Lovina I stayed in a boutique hotel named Mayo Resort and loved my time there. Mayo Resort is located about 30 minutes out of the main town, but the hotel can arrange transport for you, or you can rent a motorbike.
The absolute highlight for me was the location right at the beach. For me sleeping next to the beach has a calming and magical quality about it. Hearing the waves and seeing the ocean first thing in the morning is why I left Switzerland and it will make your holiday a pure bliss.
Mayo Resort has five studio rooms all with ocean view, as well as a family suite and one separate villa with two bedrooms.
I stayed in one of the studios and would move in permanently right away. Every room has a cute veranda where I had my early morning coffee before breakfast and was able to unwind and enjoy those morning hours. The beds were super comfy, and I slept like a baby. After an afternoon nap, all I wanted to do is jump right into the pool, which is like two steps away from my room (#lifegoals).
I have been to many different pools in my life, but this one had the best temperature ever!! This might seem like a strange detail to you (I am a bit detail-obsessed), but I do love to stay in the water and chill. Someone must have told them how much I cared about that and built an extra table in the pool for me to read and sip my coffee. ☺
It’s the perfect hangout spot to have a cocktail or play cards and enjoy life.
How about some morning yoga in the garden overwatching the ocean? Because Mayo Resort is super quiet, you can easily put down your mat or meditate on their lawn. There are also tables with umbrellas for shade, which makes it an ideal spot for playing games. I am still trying to win at chess (they do have a chess board) but so far it’s always my boyfriend who gets to say “checkmate”.
If you follow me on Instagram, you might know that I have a very sensitive stomach and need to watch what I eat and that the food has a high quality. Mayo Resort’s restaurant (Restaurant Bora Bora – the Bar and Bistro by the Beach) was delicious with high-quality ingredients for each dish. And of course: Nothing beats the view. You can have your cocktail or coconut while watching the sunset.
I had a fantastic time at Mayo Resort it is perfect to spot to unwind and enjoy the beautiful nature of north Bali. I got the relaxation I needed and got to see some untouched nature and rice-field after rice-field – Bali I love you!
If you want to explore north Bali and are looking for a place to stay, I can highly recommend Mayo Resort. Check out the booking rates here.
Make sure you also visit waterfalls and temples before or after you come here and if you haven’t, check out my full guide about Lovina yet, click here.
Another highlight in Lovina are the dolphins which I describe in my Lovina guide.
